Two children were killed and eight other people were injured after a car lost control at a Texas drag race, local television reports.
The speed limit was 75 mph, but the sport utility vehicle continued to drive past the speed limit, hitting a line of horses at the racetrack.
“It ran out of control. It didn’t slow down. It ran right into the fence, the horses in the infield,” race track owner Steve Stewart told ABC affiliate KPRC.
This is why you never leave the exit ramp,” Stewart told KPRC.
Spectator Frank Muniz said he saw some of the racing cars collide and heard a big thud.
“One of the cars blew off. The gate came open, so all the cars started coming,” Muniz told The Houston Chronicle. “My coworker came out here and saw the horses. They were dead horses. I don’t know what happened.”
Emergency responders brought nine people to the hospital — seven men and two women. One of the victims was released with a bruised hip, the station reported.
